EVOLVING THE VENTURE STEP PODCAST: MY LEARNING JOURNEY

TL;DR

THE PODCAST IS NOW BUILT AROUND THREE CORE PILLARS—ENTREPRENEURSHIP, INDUSTRY TRENDS, AND BOOK REVIEWS—DESIGNED TO CREATE A CONSISTENT, VALUABLE, AND PERSONALLY GROWTH-DRIVEN EXPERIENCE.

EVOLVING THE VISION

I’ve recently reshaped the podcast's format, a decision spurred by early listener feedback, personal growth objectives, and a desire to provide a more precise roadmap for what you, the listener, can expect. Today, I want to take you behind the scenes to share my thoughts, aspirations, and candid realities of this evolving journey.

For those of you who have been with me from the very beginning, the very few, yet profoundly appreciated listeners, you may have noticed a shift in the podcast format. This isn't merely about a new intro; it's about crystallizing the vision for The Venture Step Podcast and creating a sustainable framework that delivers value and fuels my development as a host and founder.

DEFINING PILARS

The new structure of the podcast revolves around three core pillars, each designed to bring a distinct yet complementary flavor to our discussions:

Discussing Entrepreneurship: From Company Deep Dives to Founder Stories

Entrepreneurship is the bedrock of this podcast. This segment will manifest in a couple of key ways. Firstly, you can expect more company reviews, similar to the deep dive I did on Nvidia. These analyses uncover the strategic moves, market positioning, and innovative spirit that drive successful enterprises.

Secondly, and perhaps more excitingly in the long run, is the prospect of welcoming guests onto the show. I envision conversations with founders and individuals from various companies with compelling stories and valuable insights. However, I’m also a realist. Embarking on a podcasting journey is a learning curve, and I believe in building a solid foundation first. My goal is to hone my skills as a host and produce a consistent slate of around 25 quality episodes before I start reaching out to potential guests.

Why this approach? Frankly, asking someone to dedicate their valuable time to appear on a nascent podcast is a significant request. When I extend those invitations, I want to ensure that guests can see a demonstrated commitment, a genuine effort, and a platform where their stories will be treated with the respect and professionalism they deserve. It's not about having perfect episodes from day one – my current episodes are far from it, and I own that. It is more about showcasing a clear trajectory of improvement and a passion for the craft. Potential guests are likelier to invest their time in someone who is visibly trying and dedicated, pushing the train forward, rather than waiting for it to become a full-speed freight. The aim is to create a positive experience for guests, one they’d be happy to share with their entrepreneurial peers, eventually building a rich pipeline of diverse voices and experiences for the show.

INDUSTRY TRENDS

The world of technology and business is in constant flux, and staying ahead of industry trends is crucial for any entrepreneur. This segment will focus on dissecting these trends, particularly on practical applications. For example, I recently explored the fascinating and sometimes bizarre world of AI-generated videos, sharing my screen and discussing prompts.

My interest in Artificial Intelligence is profound, but I want to be clear: I am not an AI researcher. If you're seeking highly academic or deeply technical AI content, many brilliant researchers and professors have their own podcasts – it’s almost a running joke in the scientific community about how many AI academics host podcasts! My focus will be more pragmatic: How can we, as entrepreneurs and business professionals, actually use these emerging technologies? How can we derive tangible value from them? And why is it critically important to understand these shifts to navigate the entrepreneurial landscape effectively? This segment is about demystifying the complex and making it actionable.

THE OCCASIONAL BOOK REVIEW

For those of you listening, I hope you share a sense of curiosity and a desire to learn and grow. The book review segment is designed to nurture that. Whether it’s a book you’ve already read, one you’ve been meaning to pick up, or one you’ve never heard of, my aim is for these reviews to spark further thought or encourage you to take that next step in your reading journey, much like my recent discussion on "The Daily Stoic."

On a personal level, this segment serves another purpose: it’s a commitment device. I want to read at least one book every month, and knowing I have a review to prepare ensures I stay disciplined. It’s not about forcing myself, but rather about creating a structure that supports a habit I value.

THE "WHY"

This brings me to the overarching reason for this new format: creating a positive feedback loop. This podcast isn't just about producing content; it's a system designed to foster my discipline, keep me consistently informed, and ultimately, help me become a more well-rounded, interesting individual and a better host.

"You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." James Clear

There’s a saying I’ve come across, and while the exact phrasing varies, the essence is this: your outcome is essentially a derivative of your system. Or, to put it another way, you don't rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your systems. If you have ambitious goals but a weak or non-existent system to support them, achieving those goals becomes a matter of luck rather than design. Your actual achievements will be capped by what your system can reliably produce.

The Venture Step Podcast, with its defined segments and regular schedule, is my system. It compels me to read research papers, books, and news constantly. It pushes me to refine my vision, work on my delivery, and engage with new ideas. The desired outcome? To become a more knowledgeable, engaging person, a confident speaker, an adept podcast host, and a sharper entrepreneur. If this system works as intended, the podcast will improve, offering you, the listener, more intriguing and valuable episodes. It's a symbiotic relationship where my growth should directly translate into a better experience for you.

EMBRACING THE JOURNEY

I've been genuinely surprised and grateful to receive feedback even in these early stages. It’s incredibly helpful and something I actively encourage. One recurring piece of advice has been that I use the phrase "I think" quite frequently. This is true, and upon reflection, I realize it stems from a lack of confidence as a new host. In this very discussion, I'm consciously trying to pause, compose my thoughts, and find my conviction rather than defaulting to "I think." It's a work in progress, but your feedback catalyzes that change.

Even my Nana (my grandma), whom I lovingly "make" listen to my episodes, has chimed in, humorously noting that sometimes I'm "just talking nonsense." Her candidness, while amusing, reminds me that clarity and focus are paramount, and I'm dedicated to getting better with each episode.

Beyond specific phrases, my broader goals for improvement include:

  • Enhanced Confidence: I want to project more conviction in my voice and words. When a host sounds unsure, it’s hard for the listener to buy into the message. I'm working on owning my perspective and delivering it with greater assurance.
  • Smoother Transitions: I’ll be the first to admit that some of my transitions between topics have been less than seamless - brutally bad, even. I'm trying to refine this technical aspect of hosting for a more polished listening experience.
  • Overall Delivery: From pacing to tone and articulation, I continuously seek to improve my 6presentation.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and becoming a competent podcaster involves many episodes, mistakes, and a willingness to learn in public.

THE ROAD AHEAD

Thank you to everyone who tuned in during these initial four weeks. I’m acutely aware that the episodes have been rough around the edges. Honestly, they likely will be longer as I find my footing – or, as I amusingly misspoke in the podcast, "get more episodes under my shoes" instead of my feet! Your willingness to come along for this ride, even in its unpolished state, means the world to me.

I’m genuinely excited to see where The Venture Step Podcast will be a year from now. The vision is one of continuous improvement, insightful conversations, engaging guests, and a thriving community of curious minds. I hope you’ll witness and be part of that evolution. This endeavor is as much about my growth as it is about providing value to you, and I believe that shared journey can be something special.

Thank you for your time and attention. This is more than just a podcast; it's a commitment to learning, sharing, and stepping forward together.
